Thomas Richard Cauble passed on October 17, 2014. Tom was born in North Carolina on November 16, 1955 and moved to Arizona as a baby. It seems he always worked: caring for siblings, carpenter apprenticeship with dad, joined the Boy Scouts serving in his community, working in the Scottsdale Hilton Kitchen and all of this before graduating from high school.

He then enlisted in the Marines requesting to be assigned to Food Services. This career introduced him to pastries and then to all things artistic such as chocolate and ice sculpting, petit fours and cake decorating. He took great pride in demonstrating and teaching these talents to his nieces.

Having achieved the rank of Captain, Tom retired after twenty years in the United States Marine Corps Food Service in 1993. After retiring from the Marines, Tom embarked on a second career with the California Department of Corrections in Avenal.  He worked there for seventeen years as Supervising Cook and also served as a representative for the Employees Union SEIU Local 1000.

He was a Member of Kings County Detachment 455-Marine Corps League, the American Red Cross, and was an inactive member of the Lemoore Masonic Lodge 255.  He volunteered his time and talents to serve the Veterans and the Red Cross.  He took a course in Disaster Kitchen Training in order to assist the Red Cross with relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita in Texas.

Tom was athletic, in his youth he trained as a gymnast, was in track, loved soccer and rappelling.  He played soccer in his younger years, then coached, and then watched.  After retirement from USMC and settling in Lemoore in 1993 he took a serious interest in wood- and metal-working. Both hobbies were very useful to him personally and to his community. In the 1970’s he became interested in Civil War reenactment which led him to an interest in canons.  He repaired several canons including the one that sits in front of the Veterans Building in downtown Lemoore.  He developed an interest in miniatures and built dioramas, room boxes, and a doll house.   He took a child-like pleasure in entertaining the neighborhood children with extravagant, g-rated Halloween displays.   He was always in charge of the kitchen for all family affairs and will be sorely missed at holiday times.

Tom joined a large extended family when he married his wife Valeria Jo Cross Cauble in 1976.  He is survived by his wife, his sister-in-law Valda Cross Fernald, nieces Tracy McDonald Gudgel, Tina McDonald Burke, nephews Bill McDonald, Steven Fernald, their spouses and families.   He is also survived by his mother Kate, brother James and sisters Donna and Tina.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Rest in peace Tom, your family and friends will always remember you.
