Popular hair salon, Shock of Style, celebrates its 15th year in business
It was 15 years ago, that Nina Avina, a Lemoore High School grad and a native of Stratford, established the popular salon, located at 320 D Street, in the heart of downtown Lemoore. Nina had a partner at time, who helped open the shop – Holly Covarrubias – who was on hand Friday night for the major celebration.
Avina, the proud mother of three attractive girls, all LHS grads too, has been a stylist for 29 years. Currently the shop employs seven stylists and one manicurist, all of whom cater to a myriad of faithful customers, most of whom have migrated to the shop for years.
Even shaggy-haired journalists show up every few months for a quick trim.
Why in business so long? Avina says its her staff's "dedication and pride" that keeps the customers coming.
At any time of day one can see both men receiving haircuts – at a reasonable price – and women relaxing beneath dryers, flipping through magazines as their new coiffure takes hold.
One simply cannot begin cutting hair. It takes training and certification before a stylist can take up the trade. Shock of Style current employs a number trained professionals, including Brooke Chapman, Smiley Balderama,Teresa Estrada, Katie Allison, Megan Redding, Valerie Witrado, and Kate Fox.
