A suspected car thief led a Kings County deputy on a vehicle chase today (Friday, July 13) before finding himself stuck in cul-de-sac forcing the errant driver to ram the deputy’s vehicle.

Fortunately, a Hanford police officer, who arrived at the scene at Shaver Place in Hanford, rammed his vehicle into the suspect’s car ending the chase. The suspect, Barry King, 31, continued to resist arrest but was eventually detained and transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

It was about 9:30 a.m. when the deputy located the vehicle, stolen from a home on Excelsior Avenue.  It was spotted near State Route 43 and Excelsior Avenue.  When the deputy attempted to stop the car, the suspect decided to flee, at times driving through orchards and down one-way streets. The suspect drove at high speeds, sometimes reaching 90 miles per hour on county roads and 45 to 50 miles per hour on city roads.

The pursuit lasted about 15 minutes. The suspect is on parole for assault with a deadly weapon and has an outstanding felony arrest warrant for a narcotics violation.
