LHS Sports Roundup: Tiger football team suffers road loss, volleyball, water polo results
The Tigers hit the road again this Friday with a matchup at Tulare Union High School where The Tribe takes a perfect 3-0 record into the game against the Tigers. Lemoore has one more road game – against Redwood on Sept. 28 – before returning to the friendly confines of Tiger Stadium for a West Yosemite League game against El Diamante.
Once again, the Tigers got exceptional performances from its offensive stars, including quarterback Justin Holaday, who accumulated impressive stats, all in a losing effort. The talented junior completed 18 of 25 passes for 334 yards and four touchdowns. His favorite target Friday night was Brandon Hargrove, a senior running back and receiver who caught six passes for 147 yards.
Hargrove also led the Tigers in rushing with 136 yards on 15 carries and all-purpose yards with 330 yards, including a 47-yard kickoff return.
Once again defensive standout William Kloster turned in a solid effort with 16 tackles.
Sanger took an early first quarter lead 7-0 before scoring three TDs in the second for a 28-14 advantage. It was 42-21 at the end of three before Lemoore scored 20 to close the gap at the end.
Volleyball
Lemoore’s surging volleyball team improved to 6-3 this week despite an early-morning Saturday 2-0 loss to El Diamante in the Central Valley California Classic Tournament. Saturday’s game was played in Visalia. The Tigers were scheduled to play Stone Ridge Christian in a later game.
In Friday’s action, the Tigers defeated Merced 2-1 in the late game and earlier came away with a pair of wins, a 2-1 victory over Ripon Christian and then a 2-0 win over JW North.
The Tigers will take on Redwood Tuesday in Visalia as West Yosemite League action gets underway and then travel to El Diamante for a Wednesday match.
Water polo
Lemoore’s boys’ water polo team is off to a slow start, accumulating a 3-6 mark early in the season. The Tigers lost their latest, a 13-6 decision at Sierra Pacific High. Lemoore had a more productive outing Friday afternoon, defeating Dinuba 17-2 in the Tulare Union Water Polo Tournament. The Tigers also beat Hanford 17-10.
Lemoore returns to WYL action with a Tuesday afternoon matchup with Hanford West in the Tigers’ pool.
The Lemoore girls are 2-4 on the season. They will host Hanford West Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Tigers’ pool. The Tigers are fresh from a 5-4 loss at Reedley on Sept. 4. The Tigers also have a 6-5 win against Tulare Union under their belts.
