Kings County woman arrested on suspicion of child abuse may face homicide charges

A Kings County woman was arrested by Sheriff’s investigators on suspicion of child abuse following an incident on Friday, April 25 at a residence on Kansas Avenue. The two-year-old victim, Yeily Arellano, was taken off life support on April 28 after being brain dead and on life support since April 25, stated the Kings County Sheriff’s Department.

Detectives arrested and booked the legal guardian of the victim, Rosa Ramirez Najar for suspicion of child abuse causing serious injuries and brain damage last Friday, April 25.

Once an autopsy is completed, investigators anticipate adding homicide charges.

On Friday, April 25 at about 3 p.m., fire and ambulance services responded to a 911 call regarding an unresponsive two-year-old female juvenile. The child was reported to have fallen and was injured. Due to the type and extent of the injuries, sheriff's investigators responded to the scene and began an investigation. 

Detectives arrested and booked the legal guardian of the victim, Ramirez Najar, on suspicion of child abuse and causing serious injuries or brain damage.
