Lemoore High School’s all-time leading rusher, Richard Doctor, has been chosen to play in the 47th annual Tulare-Kings All-Star football game, set for Friday, July 25, at Tulare’s Bob Mathias Stadium. After filling in as the head baseball coach at West Hills College Coalinga last fall, P.E. instructor Stefan McGovern has been officially hired as the head baseball coach for next season. “My family and I are thrilled to remain at West Hills College and remain a part of the community in Coalinga,” said McGovern. “I believe that I have a great vision for this program which will not only lead to success on the field, but also prepare these young men for the next step at the four-year level.” Keep reading...
According to his coach, Lemoore High School’s Michael Burke will eventually be a state track and field champion, but unfortunately it won’t be this year. Lemoore High School has a long list of athletes who have excelled in track and field, and the school has an impressive display case in its event center chocked full of top-notch athletes who have won Valley and State championships. There just may be another athlete headed to the school’s prestigious Athletic Hall of Fame in the form of Michael Burke, Lemoore's premier high jumper, and based on this year's results from neighboring Kings Christian, the Crusaders just may have to establish its own Hall of Fame thanks to efforts from two of its star athletes. Lemoore’s baseball and softball varsity teams failed to earn a spot in the Central Valley playoffs after losing to Hanford last week. The boys’ varsity had to beat the Bullpups to qualify for a playoff spot. Hanford spoiled the Tigers’ chances by beating Lemoore 6-3 in the West Yosemite League finale for both squads. Lemoore divers will travel to Golden West High School for the WYL Dive Meet May 7 while the WYL swimming meet will take place, again at Golden West on Thursday and Friday. Lemoore High’s Maggie Billingsley, the latest in a long line of the local clan to excel in academics and athletics, is taking her considerable volleyball skills to the Bay Area where she will play for Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California.
